Players Meet Makers, 2010

An Exhibition of Contemporary Instrument and Bow Making was presented by the American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers on Sunday, May 9, 2010 in Montreal. Players Meet Makers is a feature of each of our Biennial General Meetings.

The next Players Meet Makers event will take place in 2012 at a yet to be determined location. Please visit our site again for more details.

For the last 20 years the American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers has reached out to the wider musical community through an exhibit known as Players Meet Makers. Many of the world’s most renowned makers display their instruments and bows to the general public at this event in an informal setting.

Players Meet Makers takes place as part of each AFVBM Biennial General Meeting. It is free and open to the public and allows local players the opportunity to view, and even try, some of these great contemporary instruments and bows.

The American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers was founded in 1980 to provide the musical community with a standard of work and expertise upon which they could depend. The Federation’s mission is to enhance the public’s understanding and appreciation of the violin and bow families, including the making of new instruments, and the conservation and restoration of historical and modern instruments and bows. Now numbering over 170 of the finest makers, dealers and restorers in the United States and Canada, the AFVBM has strict requirements for membership. In addition to submitting an example of his or her work for review, a prospective member must have at least nine years of experience working in the profession.
